Know your constitution.

. . .

Interesting facts one must know About Themselves to Stay Healthy –

. .. .

Know your B.M.I- (Body mass Index) -

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a connection between height and weight that is linked with body fat and health risk.

It is very important to know your B.M.I. as this can give an approx. idea regarding your body condition and also it can helps you to prevent many diseases.

Thus to calculate the B.M.I. all you need is this simple formula:-

B.M.I.  = Weight of the person in kilograms / Height in meters  squared.

For example – Height is 180 cm (1.8 meter), Weight is 80 kgs.
Then         : -    80 (Wt.) / 1.8 meter (ht.)   ×1.8 meter (ht.) = 24.70

Thus if the B.M.I. Is :-

1.    18.5 or less – Under weight.
2.    18.5 -24.9  - Normal.
3.    25 – 29.9    - Overweight.
4.    30 -34.9     - Obese.
5.    35 – 39.9    - Obese with very higher risk.
6.    40 or more - Extremely obese.

Know your Constitution ( Prakruti ) :-

The word Prakruti means the Constitutional Nature of each Individual which is determined at the time of conception.

For example you have three friends - Diana, Robert and Mario . Once they came to meet you. Diana came and clicked the call bell button slightly and waited for you for two or three minutes and even you were late to open the door, she was just cool and calm. And Robert!!! Oh my God! He pushed the bell hard and when you were late he shouted at you badly as if you have done something punishable even you were busy inside, it never matters to him!! The third one ……..yaps! The Mario !! He came and blown out the bell some five to ten times in a short span of two minutes. And if by the way you were late he was in your lawns, was plucking the leaves of plants there. The thing which made them to perform their works differently is their Prakruti. And each one of us is one out of Diana, Robert and Mario !!!

Diana , Robert and Mario  these are three different persons with their own peculiarities with them. By birth they got these peculiarities. They are of same species, same race even then they are different from each other. Basically each of them is having same genetic configuration of 46 genes or it is said in Ayurvedic language the same Tridoshas and Punchmahabhootas . But even then they differ from each other this is due to our tendencies towards life, which is because of their basic prakruti right from our birth.  Thus this is Prakruti.

At the stage of conception the constitution of the individual is determined by the permutations and combinations of the basic five elements that manifests in the Parents  ‘Sukra’ and ‘Arthava’ ( Male and female reproductive Fluid ).

Thus once this prakruti is formed then it cannot be changed and that becomes the Constitution of the person and if there is any disturbance in this then it is going to cause problem to the person.

There are basically Seven Prakruti as per Ayurveda –

  1. Vata Type.
  2. Pitta Type.
  3. Kapha Type.
  4. Vata- pitta  Type.
  5. Vata -kapha Type.
  6. Pitta  - Kapha  Type.
  7. Vata - Pitta – kapha Type.

So Basically Vata Dominent , Pitta Dominent ,and Kapha Dominent - three important constitutional natures are there.

So, now the Question arises, what is the use of knowing the Prakruti?

The answer for this is: –

Like if you have a car, but you don’t know how to drive it, nor you know the traffic rules and still you drive then what will happen - accident!  Thus in the same way if we don’t know who we are , nor we know what is our basic Constitution, what is good for us  to eat and what is not and still we continue the same without knowing then accidents will occur inside our body  causing diseases. Thus it is very important to know the Constitution of the person.

For example suppose two person of same Age and Built are there But One is Pitta Dominet Person and the other is Vata  Dominent.  If Both Take Curd ( Yogrut ) in  the same quantity then the curd will cause more Problem to pitta person then the Vata person.  As Curd is Acidic and this quality is Going to Increase the Pitta.

So if the person knows that he is Pitta Dominent and if he takes less Quantity of curd then he will not have any problem and will be healthy. So this is the importance of Knowing the Prakruti.

By knowing one’s Prakruti one can plan his or her Daily routine in such a way that he or she should remain healthy without being ill.

So each and every individual is having his or her own Prakruti ( Constitution ). Like Some one is having Vata –pitta parkruti , some one is having PItta kapha  Prakruti. In this the one which is denoted means that is dominant in that person. Like Pitta and kapha prakruti person these two dosha pitta and kapha are dominant.

So at the time of birth these are formed and when ever there is imbalance then disease are going to occur.
So balance of Dosha  Do not means All vata –Pitta and kapha to be in Equilibrium but balance means the dosha should be to it’s normal level according to the person’s Constitution.

Like In a person vata is 70 %, pitta is 20% and kapha is 10 % dominant. So if any of these increase or Decrease from its normal level then it is going to cause disease. And balance means all the dosha should be in its normal level as per the person’s Constitution like vata to be at 70 % and so.

Thus this is a brief Introduction to Prakruti. Actually there are two type of prakruti ( Constitution). One is Physical or Bodily Prakruti which cannot be changed but can be maintained and the other one is Mental prakruti which can change according to the environment.

  1. Physical prakruti   Includes – Vata , Pitta And Kapha Type. (Tridoshas  )
  2. Mental Prakruti   Includes  - Sattva , Rajas  and Tamas Type. ( Trigunas. )

The Mind and body work together for Health and happiness and thus both are equally responsible for maintaining health .These Tri doshas represents Physical constituent and Tri Gunas reflects our Mental set up or Mental constitution.

Characters of Mental prakruti ( Tri Gunas Or Three Qualities) –

Usually the mental prakruti are Sattva , Rajas and Tamas.

Sattva – Resembles Purity, Tolerance, Peace and Harmony. So, it the that state of mind in which the mind is not confused and can act accordingly as per the condition knowing that what is right and wrong.

So if a person is following proper hygiene, consuming pure food like milk, fresh vegetables, fresh air, fresh water etc will enhance the sattva and thus remain healthy.

RajasResembles Passion, Ambitious, naturalness. But the person who is having rajas dominancy will usually be in confuse state and what ever he or she will do will always be in dilemma initially whether to do this or that . The mind in this state is running and not stable. Thus the one who consumes too much of spicy food, adulterant food stuff etc will have this Rajas dominancy.

Tamas  - Tama Resembles Darkness , Ignorance ,sluggishness , inactivity. This is that state of mind when the mind is totally not working and lazy. The  Tama dominant person are lazy and not at all eager to do anything in life. They always like to stay at one place doing nothing.  Their enthusiasm level is almost zero and they are not at all motivated.

The one who consumes too much preserved food , meats and flesh , too heavy food , not maintaining hygiene , addicted  to narcotics have Tamas state of mind.

Note - The Physical Prakruti once formed will never be changed. This is formed at the time of conception and thus cannot be changed, but can be Maintained.

But , The mental prakruti  can be changed as per the Atmosphere. If the person follow all the things which enhances the Sattva quality then his or her Sattva quality will increase, similarly with the Rajas and Tamas  Quality.
